SCHILLING/CELLPHONE 2  ZFF NEW AT 5 JUNE 17

The president of the Alberta Teachers' Association says a new government policy on cellphone use in classrooms is what teachers have been looking for.

The province has announced come fall, cellphones will have to be off and put away in all K to 12 classrooms.  Jason Schilling says this matches the ATA policy adopted in May.

But Schilling is concerned that the province is leaving implementation and the fine details up to individual school boards.

Boards will be allowed to implement additional restrictions if they choose and will also be responsible for coming up with consequences for non-compliance.
